Shotime here,
I doing my routinely scan of soccer youtube videos and I came across this insane video of soccers greats. Ronaldo (the old fat one), Ronaldinho, Saviloa, Zidane, you name it. They are the classics who define the game today. Watch them make defenders look stupid!
Later!

Whoa Just what I needed!!
So I was cruising around the internet in search of a good site that shows soccer highlights across the world. Until now, I would have to search for poor quality youtube links that only go for about a minute or two. But then I came across this website and I am not going to lie, I hit the jack pot. Here it is soccer fans. I give you... Footytube! Enjoy.

NBA TV Top 10: March 9th
Hey Sports Fans,
Bringing you one of the last sports blogs for the quarter. With Finals just around the corner I wanted to end it with the Top 10 Plays of the Week in the NBA. Some of these were outrages and really good hustle plays. Overall I think it has been a great week within the NBA, and I am greatly looking forward to the game tonight by the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miam Heat. It should be a great game considering that the Lakers lost last time they played and that the Heat are currently in a 5 game losing streak while the Lakers are in a 8 game winning streak.

Player Tackles Streaker
Hey Sports Fans,
Have some funny news for you this fine Wednesday afternoon. In a soccer match between Dorchester and Havant & Waterloo in England's six tier of soccer, an intruder, dressed in a bright green thong ran onto the field. The stewards leisurely pursued him but it wasn't until Dorchester's Ashley Vickers grew impatient that the pest was apprehended. Vickers was given a red card, crushing Dorchester's playoff hopes, as it is apparently illegal for players to get involved with streakers.
Apologies for the fans' language. Soccer sure brings out some of the strangest behavior in the world.

Miami Running out of Heat
Hey Sports Fan,
Just bringing you some news about the "superstar" team known as the Miami Heat. Currently the Heat are in a losing streak of 3 games. With 2 humiliating losses back to back, one to the Orlando Magic and last nights to the San Antonio Spurs the Heat seem to have lost there composure and seem to be spiraling down. The first major loss they had was against the Magic where they gave up a 24 point lead heading in to the third quarter. The Orlando Magic was able to score 54 points in the second half of the game compared to the 33 points scored by the Miami Heat. This was a devastating loss considering they were in the lead for most of the game and they essentially threw away the game in the second half.
Just last night the Heat were ready to redeem themselves but they were unable to get anything going against the San Antonio Spurs. The Heat could not contain San Antonio in any sense, Miami ended up scoring only 12 points compared to the Spurs 36 points. After the first quarter Tim Duncan stated "game over" and after the first quarter the Heat never had a chance to ever come back. The heat ended up losing 125(Spurs) to 95(Heat).
Overall it seems that the Heat need to regather themselves and somehow win a game to continue winning. Only time will tell of what will happen to the Heats lack of team work.

Man U Drops Big Game
Hey Sports Fans,
Really disappointing loss for Manchester United today. I'm no Man U fan but I am certainly a Chelsea hater. Having held a 1-0 lead going into half, United had a positive outlook for the rest of the match but after David Luiz's early goal, Chelsea rallied. Following a questionable penalty call in the 79th minute, Frank Lampard netted a sweet PK into the roof of the net. Missed opportunities and more questionable refereeing ensued and United trudged into their locker room with their tails between their legs.
This is United's second loss this season, although they are still firmly in first place in the EPL.
This is also my first loss this month in Streak for Ca$h. 0-1 currently but feeling very optimistic about the Mavericks beating the Sixers in Philly tonight which will kick off my month of March streak of terror.
On a final note, who's excited for March Madness? Anyone have any crazy predictions? Would love to hear them...

Carmelo Power Not Enough for New York
Hey Sports Fans,
Shockingly the New York Knicks were unable to win against the worst team in the NBA the Cleveland Cavaliers in yesterdays games at Cleveland. With the new audition of powerhouse players such as Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire and Chauncey Billups, the Knicks where unable to pull a win when they essentially gave away the game in the third quarter. The Cavaliers where able to outscore the Knicks 30 to 22 points in the third, where the Knicks defense was nowhere to be seen. Even though the Knicks did end up losing Carmelo was quoted in stating that it was to be expected that they would lose there first couple of games since the team would have to adjust to the change in play style. The powerhouse three from Denver ended up scoring 84 out of 104 points for the game, but it still was not enough for the Knicks. Overall the Knicks seemed to be in control for most of the game until the third quarter where there was a lack of defense that ended up costing them the game. It will be interesting to find out how the Denver players are able to adjust to the Knicks in the future.

Bad Sportsmanship...

It makes me sad when professional athletes use their strengths in the wrong way. But that's exactly what happened on the night AC Milan and Tottenham clashed last week for a Champion's league knock out match. Genaro Gattuso, (33) a respected footballer, unleashed his anger for his team's poor performance towards Tottenham coach Harry Redknapp by slapping in the face. This sort of behavior does not impress me nor did impress FIFA. Gattuso will be facing consequences for his action.

Finally!!
Big news sports fans,
According to ESPN and various other sources Carmelo Anthony is soon to be a Knick. For sure. Actually. Confirmed.
This is good for a few reasons:
1) ESPN broadcasting will actually direct some of its attention to tangible pieces of information as compared to speculation...assuming this NBA lock out business doesn't take center stage.
2) The Knicks can benefit from having such a strong front court although they will apparently lose Danilo Galinari, Raymond Felton, and Wilson Chandler. It looks as if they will acquire Chauncey Billups however who may work very well with rookie Landry Fields in the Knick's backcourt.
3) This is good for the NBA. The Knicks have all the infrastructure necessary to make themselves a likable, fun, team for America to watch. New York is the US's basketball city. Madison Square Garden is the best basketball arena in the country.
Only one thing comes to mind when thinking of bad news and that's Spike Lee's trash-talking grounds.

Sprite Slam Dunk Contest

Hey Sports Fans,
A-town bringing you some cool stuff that I saw over the weekend. The primary thing that caught my attention this weekend was the annual NBA slam dunk competition. This year the primary contenders were Los Angeles Clippers Blake Griffin and Washington Wizards Javale McGee. It was a good match up with numerous high scoring dunks from both sides. Even though both of the players tried there best Blake Griffin was able to triumph over Javale McGee with an amazing dunk over a car. Blake Griffin was quoted in stating that he had been throwing around the idea of dunking over a car but never really though he was going to do it. But once he had the idea he had to do it, so he did. With this dunk Blake Griffin was able to take the Slam Dunk Contest for 2011.

Streak for Ca$h
Hey Sports Fans,
I've been recently very involved in a sports prediction competition on ESPN.com. It's called Streak for Cash. For those of you who haven't tried it, you're missing out on the chance to win a lot of money. Somebody wins $50 grand every month. All you have to do is predict sports match ups. At the end of the month whoever has the longest streak (of correct predictions) wins. It's an international competition as far as I'm aware. Usually the winner has about 23 straight predictions right.
Sounds easy right? Wrong. My friends and I have been doing it but to no avail. My longest streak thus far is 4. I don't think I'll ever legitimately win but it's fun to chase the dream! Go ahead and try it out.
I promise this isn't a plug. But if ESPN and Progressive want to pay me for this post I won't turn it down. *cough*
Have a fun week guys,

"Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow"

Hey Sports Fans,
Just a quick update well obviously I was wrong if you read my previous post and the GreenBay Packers ended up winning the Super Bowl (big deal). Was not a big fan of either team but if I had to choose I went with the black and yellow Steelers. Overall it was a great game with a couple of mistakes that were the Pittsburgh overall downfall. Steelers biggest problem during the game were turnovers which the Steelers had 3 of in which the Packers were able to score. During the second half the Steelers were able to show signs of life but it was too little too late, the Packers had a commanding lead over the Steelers that they were unable to overcome. Great game non the less was lacking a little bit on play making and action. At least for me this Super Bowl was not as great as others have been. With a lack of scoring and commercials the only real highlight I felt was the the Black Eyes Peas performance.

Super Bowl Reactions?
So much for my sports predictions. Thus far I'm 0% on my own blog. I was pleasantly proven wrong. I was right about one thing, a Packer victory would be a close one. Aaron Rodgers was too strong for the Steelers, threading the needle on numerous occasions. Despite over five dropped passes, the Packers passing game was very effective. The Steelers turned the ball over three times as well, which was a definite factor in their loss. Congrats to the Pack, this is likely one of the last times I will be supporting them :).
In other news, the SAP open starts tonight at the HP pavilion in San Jose. Those of you in the area, don't miss out on this fun tournament, there should be some great tennis this week. Gael Monfils plays Pete Sampras in an exhibition tonight. Should be awesome to see a legend against one of the most entertaining players of our age.
If you don't know Gael, watch this link, that will give you a rough idea of how talented the guy is.
Lastly, for you Bay Area fans, the Warriors take on Santa Clara alumnus Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns at the Oracle Arena tonight. It ought to be a high scoring affair!
Take it easy everyone,

Super Bowl Sunday....Tomorrow

Hey guys,
Obviously the big topic of this weekend is the Super Bowl. One of the biggest events of the year will be tomorrow with the 45th Super Bowl. The match will consist of the GreenBay Packers and the Pittsburg Steelers bringing some of the oldest teams in the league head to head. The match will begin tomorrow at 3:30 Pm located at the Cowboy Stadium. Well everyone knows whose going to win and according to my expert opinion its going to be the Pittsburg Steelers (don't quote me on this), my dad has been a fan for what seems years so obviously I have to go with the family. But in all this should be a great Super Bowl.
Thanks until next time,

Super Bowl Sunday
Hey guys,
Hope everybody had a good sports weekend. I’m recovering from a terrible Aussie Open prediction paired with Newcastle’s loss of Andy Carroll to Liverpool.
We’re five days away from the Super Bowl, (which I’m guessing you already know unless you live underneath a nice cozy boulder) so it’s time to make predictions. I will have you know I’ve been talking about the wild card Green Bay Packers winning the NFC since before they even made the playoffs. That said, I can’t see any NFC team beating Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl. Pittsburgh has owned the Super Bowl over the last decade. So long as they suit up on a Sunday in February, the Steelers hold a sense of entitlement, as if it was predetermined that the Lombardi trophy will belong to them once more. Aaron Rodgers has been really hot throughout the playoffs but he hasn’t faced the unbreakable pressure of Troy Polamalu and his Head and Shoulders warrior hair. If Green Bay can get the W, it’s going to be a serious battle.
Either way it should be a fun Sunday, if not for the game, then for the wings and the commercials.
See you then sports fans.

A proud moment

Italian giants Inter Milan have signed the Yuto Nagatomo (24). The young Japanese recently won the Asia cup in Qatar, and performed exceptionally well in the 2010 World Cup attracting last years European Champions to seek his signature right before the January transfer window slams shut. Nagatomo is the first Japanese player to arrive play for Inter Milan making it a proud moment for the Blue Samurai. Well, at least I'm happy!
In other news, Torres moves to Chelsea for 50 million pounds which makes me sad.

Shotime here,
Reds goal scorer Fernando Torres (aka best striker in the world) is negotiating a move to last seasons premier league champions, Chelsea (Cash splashers). Liverpool have twice rejected massive bids for the Spaniard from clubs like Manchester City and Barcelona, however a £50 million bid from Chelsea may be impossible to ignore. his star striker from leaving, but Torres who has expressed his wish to leave Anfield, may find that a move to Chelsea will benefit him the most. Negotiations are expected to take place until the last minute of the January transfer window, which closes Monday night.

Aussie Open Final
Hey Sports Fans,
For those of you who missed it, the Australian Open has been churning out some high quality tennis matches for the last twelve days. Last night Andy Murray of Great Britain and David Ferrer of Spain battled for a spot in the final against Novak Djokovic. Murray came out very flat at the beginning of the match and dropped the first set 6-4. After some extremely grueling play, Murray saved a set point and rallied back to win the second set. Ferrer seemed to have lost some of his fire and subsequently dropped the next two sets as well.
Sunday (or Saturday night in our country) Murray will take on Djokovic for the title. Djokovic has won one Slam title before, that being the Aussie, while Murray has won none. Having been in three finals, Murray is long overdue for a title but he must overcome the pressure of a nation that hasn't won a Slam in 80 years and who's tabloids consistently ridicule their failed athletics.
I had Murray winning the tournament in my Tennis Channel bracket (much to all of my friends disapproval--showed them wrong!) and I still expect him to take it on Sunday. My prediction--Murray in four sets.

Just checking in and bringing you the current news on sports. What really caught my attention this week is the Carmelo Anthony trade and its failure with the New Jersey Nets. Carmelo has been looking for a trade for a while and the New Jersey trade ended up not happening after pressure from the owner of the Nets. The owner of the Nets was not "ready" for the trade and decided to end the negotiations. But Carmelo seems to continue looking for a trade and has shown interest in the New York Knicks. Rumors continue to spread but all of it is not conformed.
Upcoming games for tonight are:
~Wizards vs Timberwolves
~Magic vs Thunder
~Heat vs Nuggets

Tonight
Hey bay area sports fans,
Real quick post here. Just wanted to get the word out--there are some great match ups on TV tonight.
Your Sharks take on the Wild in a pivotal game. San Jose's hoping to extend their three game win streak and sneak into 8th place in the Western conference. Home game, starts around 7:45.
Golden State hosts Blake Griffin and the Los Angeles Clippers in a big Pacific match up.
For tennis fans--my boy Fed takes on Tommy Robredo. Should a pretty interesting match up--Robredo's a dark horse.
Also -- showing a little school spirit. Coming off their big W against Gonzaga, Santa Clara sustained their high level of play, taking down Portland this afternoon!

Just checking in
How's it going blog readers,
I just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce my self and show you where we are trying to go with splogbook. My name is Sho Nakashima. I was born in Japan and lived there my entire life. As an athlete here at SCU, it is pretty predictable that I would chose to blog about sports. It is even more predictable that I would write about soccer as the sport that I play is.. you guessed it.. soccer. I will be focusing in on the soccer world and for those who are interested in the subject, know how juicy and scandalous the 'footbol' world can get, thus to capture all of that soccerlicious news I will be paying close attention to the English Premier league, Spanish La Liga, and Italian Serie A.
I hope you guys find our blog useful and stay sporty!

Hey y'all,
First post here. Never blogged before so this should be an interesting experience. My name's Ollie. I'm a Junior at Santa Clara University. For my communication and technology class I had to create a blog so here it is.
This is a sports blog, hence splogbook (plain splog's been taken...).
About me...I'm your average American sports fan. Supporter of all Bay Area teams (minus the Raiders). Also have a soft spot for the Knicks, the Canadiens, and the Cubs.
Looking forward to sharing some of my opinions.
